Proposal on research topic:
My personal focus of research for this paper is based on the career field of a social worker and the struggles that they face everyday at work. Although there are several problems that social workers come up against including; emotional strains, ever growing number of children (specifically those in minority fields) in orphanages, fulfilling the individual needs of those children, and the restrictions placed on those who are more than willing to adopt, love and care for these children.

Although these are all interrelated within the field its self I've decided to narrow down my research topic to focus solely on Trans-racial Adoptions and  "How the policy against interracial adoptions affects the orphanage population in the United States?"

This issue is one of the most controversial questions that social workers specifically deal with on a daily basis... there are those who believe TRA would cause genocide (the loss of ones individual ethnic/cultural/ racial background) throughout the nation and those that say race should not be of any issue when dealing with placing children in permanent good homes.

In my personal opinion, racism is still one of the biggest problems within the US today, we just choose to ignore it. TRA is allowed in several other countries already... people who want to adopt children of a minority, choose to adopt from oversees because of the U.S stance on TRA. I think we need to deal with the growing population of orphans within the US before we even think about children from other countries.

Who are we to ruin one child's possible happiness just for the sake of their racial identity. Does it really matter that much? Does it matter enough to deny them a stable home environment with two parents to help guide them into becoming productive adults?

These are questions I'd like to base my research on...

Jan. 28- How interested are you in your research topic so far?

What about your topic is interesting? Is there a specific aspect of your topic that holds more interest for you that would be a good place for you to focus? -if so, explain the focus...

I'm an emotionally motivated person, meaning that I tend to use my emotions and interest to move me to find  out more about a certain research topic. I plan on researching more about being a social worker in order to find a better grasp on what kind of career I'd like to pursue within the field of sociology.

I was able to narrow down my research topic last class period... deciding that i would write my paper on whether the lack of interracial adoptions is a leading cause to the growth of the population of children without homes. It breaks my heart to hear about a child having to grow up in an environment without a loving parental figure to guide them.

Children tend to need a lot of guidance growing up and it's hard to teach a child and show them love& support if they have to grow up in an orphanage. I find it absolutely ridiculous that some children could have a chance at being adopted by a good family, but don't get adopted due to the racial backgrounds. Race in my mind should not effect the adoption process.

Children are children, it doesn't matter what race they are & it frankly shouldn't matter. Our country should be putting the racial issue behind us.

01/10 Process for Researching...

What do I do when I need to find information on a certain subject?? In all honesty it depends solely on the type of material I am looking to find. Depending on what it is that I want to know I use various sources.

If its a simple question that another person could easily answer I'll rely on word of mouth and listen to those around me. How ever if it's something a little more indepth, and more important that I get the right answer then as every modern day adult would do... I look to Google to answer all my questions. Using the Internet is the easiest and fastest way to look up information. It's relatively cheep and it'll give you a wide variety of sites to  look at. Which gives me a lot of sources to insure that I end up with my desired answer.

I rarely look in the library any more because, there are so many ebooks available online.
