Proposal on research topic:
My personal focus of research for this paper is based on the career field of a social worker and the struggles that they face everyday at work. Although there are several problems that social workers come up against including; emotional strains, ever growing number of children (specifically those in minority fields) in orphanages, fulfilling the individual needs of those children, and the restrictions placed on those who are more than willing to adopt, love and care for these children.
Although these are all interrelated within the field its self I've decided to narrow down my research topic to focus solely on Trans-racial Adoptions and "How the policy against interracial adoptions affects the orphanage population in the United States?"
This issue is one of the most controversial questions that social workers specifically deal with on a daily basis... there are those who believe TRA would cause genocide (the loss of ones individual ethnic/cultural/ racial background) throughout the nation and those that say race should not be of any issue when dealing with placing children in permanent good homes.
In my personal opinion, racism is still one of the biggest problems within the US today, we just choose to ignore it. TRA is allowed in several other countries already... people who want to adopt children of a minority, choose to adopt from oversees because of the U.S stance on TRA. I think we need to deal with the growing population of orphans within the US before we even think about children from other countries.
Who are we to ruin one child's possible happiness just for the sake of their racial identity. Does it really matter that much? Does it matter enough to deny them a stable home environment with two parents to help guide them into becoming productive adults?
These are questions I'd like to base my research on...
